The 6th Annual Fight for Independence event and charity auction to benefit Nazareth House and The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) Emergency Department took place at Steam Whistle Brewing on September 24th, 2009. We're thrilled to announce that it was another successful event. Thank you to everyone who attended the event and those who supported the live and silent auctions. We hope you had a wonderful evening, and know how much you are helping women and children in our community who are suffering in life-threatening situations.

Established as a registered not-for-profit charitable organization, Nazareth House is a home, in Toronto’s Annex, for at-risk women and infants. Since 1985, Nazareth House has provided safe housing to over 1,000 women and 125 infants.  These are women with special needs - fleeing from domestic abuse, or recovering from mental health or substance abuse issues - who urgently require a place to call home. Nazareth House is not a traditional shelter - it is a facility that performs a permanent service to help these women learn to live independently, rejoin the workforce and be caring mothers to their children. Nazareth House is funded, in part, by the City of Toronto’s Supports to Daily Living Program, but depends on private donations and its volunteers to stay operational. It is the generous and thoughtful donations from people like you and businesses like yours that help Nazareth House remain a place of hope.

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), affiliated with the University of Toronto, is Canada’s most research-intensive hospital and the largest centre dedicated to improving children’s health in the country. As innovators in child health, SickKids improves the health of children by integrating care, research and teaching. The Emergency Department (ED) at SickKids provides a vital service to both the community and the hospital as last year alone, more than 48,000 children were treated and 42% of all patient admissions were conducted in the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department Trauma Program at SickKids is a leading trauma program and treats over 900 trauma patients a year.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT!
